Jalu

Jalu , Jaloo, or Gialo (Arabic: جالو‎) is a town in the Al Wahat District in northeastern Libya in the Jalo oasis. From 2001 to 2007 it was part of Ajdabiya District.[1] Formerly (1983-1987) it was the administrative seat of Jalu District (baladiyah).

The city is located in an oasis in the Libyan desert about 250 kilometers from the Gulf of Sirte. Awjila Oasis lies about 30 km north-west of Jalu.

Awjila (also called Awjilah) has two sites of interest: Atiq Mosque, with its unusual conical domes made from brick, mud and limestone, and the Mausoleum of Ali Abdullah ibn Sarh, who was the leader of the Islamic conquest of these regions in the seventh century.

The main economic activities in the area are agriculture and many work for companies in the oil sector. The main crops are the cultivation of date palms in the oasis, tomatoes and cereals.
